Adrenaline Rush: How Far Would You Go?

Adrenaline, also called epinephrine, is both a hormone and a neurotransmitter. The adrenal glands produce most of it, while some neurons in the central nervous system also produce it. Released into the bloodstream, it acts on different types of cells and helps prepare the body for the famous “fight or flight” response when we face stress or danger.

Ever wondered what the little molecule behind the adrenaline rush actually looks like?

But adrenaline isn’t only about escaping danger. For some people, the rush of speed, height, uncertainty and excitement is exactly what makes life more interesting.

Some prefer a calm and predictable life. Others actively look for experiences that make the heart race and push them beyond their comfort zone.

So where would you draw the line? Which of these experiences would you choose for an unforgettable adrenaline rush?

Height, Urban Thrills & Free Fall

Some adrenaline seekers prefer getting as high as possible, whether that means climbing rooftops or stepping onto a ride that sends them flying. From roller coasters to bungee jumping and skydiving, the ground is clearly optional. 😈

Roller Coaster – is an amusement ride developed for amusement parks and modern theme parks. LaMarcus Adna Thompson obtained a patent regarding roller coasters on January 20, 1885, which were made out of wood. In essence a specialized railroad system, a roller coaster consists of a track that rises in designed patterns, sometimes with one or more inversions (such as vertical loops) that briefly turn the rider upside down. Most roller coasters have multiple cars in which passengers sit and are restrained. Two or more cars hooked together are called a train.

Would you still call it fun when the screaming starts? 😈🎢

Bungee Jumping – is an activity that involves jumping from a tall structure while connected to a large elastic cord. The tall structure is usually a fixed object, such as a building, bridge or crane; but it is also possible to jump from a movable object, such as a hot-air-balloon or helicopter, that has the ability to hover above the ground. The thrill comes from the free-falling and the rebound.

Skydiving is a sport involving a skydiver jumping down from an airplane while it is flying and parachuting to the ground. Skydiving can be done individually and with other people. Training is required to go solo.

Roof Climbing is a new extreme entertainment when Roofers – crazy young guys, lives for a thrill and walks, climbs the highest buildings roofs, towers, who hangs on highest cranes, walls or edges, and surely makes selfies as an improvement.
The extreme sportsman Grigory, also known as roofer Mustang Wanted, posted a selfie of himself, confessed he painted the star on atop the main building of Moscow State University (MGU), in the colors of the Ukrainian flag and commented “Congratulations on Independence Day, Ukraine!” That can be called double Adrenaline.

Speed & Racing

For others, adrenaline starts when the speedometer does. Snowboarding, Formula One and high-speed boat racing all turn speed into the main attraction. 🏎️🌊

Snowboarding is a recreational activity and olympic sport that involves descending a slope that is covered with snow while standing on a snowboard attached to a rider’s feet. The development of snowboarding was inspired by skateboarding, sledding, surfing and skiing. It was developed in the United States in the 1960s and became a Winter Olympic Sport in 1998. Its popularity (as measured by equipment sales) peaked in 2007 and has been in a decline since.

Racing is a thrilling competition of speed, against an objective criterion, usually a clock or to a specific point. The main form of racing is running, but also racing may be conducted in vehicles, such as boats, cars, cycles and aircraft, with animals such as horses or dogs or other forms.
Formula One (Formula 1 or F1) is the highest class of single-seat auto racing. These cars are the fastest road course racing cars in the world, and speeds of up to 220 mph (360 km/h) with engines currently limited in performance to a maximum of 15,000 RPM. Speeding up in such vehicle gives unforgettable emotions and adrenaline, especially during accidents like in picture below.

Mountain & Rock

Mountains offer a different kind of adrenaline: steep climbs, rough terrain and very little room for mistakes. Would you trust your balance and your nerves when the landscape drops away beneath you? 🧗

Rock climbing is an activity in which participants climb up, down or across natural rock formations or artificial rock walls. The goal is to reach the summit of a formation or the endpoint of a usually pre-defined route without falling. Professional Rock climbing competitions have the objectives of either completing the route in the quickest possible time or attaining the farthest point on an increasingly difficult route. Rock climbing is a physically and mentally demanding sport, one that often tests a climber’s strength, endurance, agility and balance along with mental control. It can be a dangerous activity and knowledge of proper climbing techniques and usage of specialised climbing equipment is crucial for the safe completion of routes.

Mountain biking is the sport of riding bicycles off-road, often over rough terrain, using specially designed mountain bikes. Mountain bikes share similarities with other bikes, but incorporate features designed to enhance durability and performance in rough terrain. This individual sport requires endurance, core strength and balance, bike handling skills, and self-reliance. Advanced riders pursue both steep technical descents and high incline climbs. In the case of free riding, down hilling, and dirt jumping, aerial maneuvers are preformed off both natural features and specially constructed jumps and ramps.

Water, Waves & Rapids

When solid ground gets boring, there is always water. From giant waves and raging rivers to flying above the surface, these experiences add plenty of speed, spray and uncertainty. 🌊

A Flyboard is a type of water jetpack attached to a personal water craft (PWC) which supplies propulsion to drive the Flyboard through air and water to perform a sport known as flyboarding. A Flyboard rider stands on a board connected by a long hose to a watercraft. Water is forced under pressure to a pair of boots with jet nozzles underneath which provide thrust for the rider to fly up to 15 m (49 ft) in the air or to dive headlong through the water down to 2.5 m (8 ft). This is fairly a new thing popping up around the world. Flyboarding is definitely more for an adrenaline junkie looking for water activities.

Surfing is a surface water sport in which the wave rider, referred to as a surfer, rides on the forward or deep face of a moving wave, which is usually carrying the surfer towards the shore. Waves suitable for surfing are primarily found in the ocean, but can also be found in lakes or in rivers in the form of a standing wave or tidal bore. However, surfers can also utilize artificial waves such as those from boat wakes and the waves created in artificial wave pools.

Rafting and white water rafting are recreational outdoor activities which use an inflatable raft to navigate a river or other body of water. This is often done on whitewater or different degrees of rough water, and generally represents a new and challenging environment for participants. Dealing with risk and the need for teamwork is often a part of the experience. The development of this activity as a leisure sport has become popular since the mid-1970s, evolving from individuals paddling 10 feet (3.0 m) rafts with double-bladed paddles to multi-person rafts propelled by single-bladed paddles and steered by a tour guide at the stern. It is considered an extreme sport, and can be fatal.

The Other Kind of Adrenaline Rush

Not every racing heart comes from jumping out of a plane. Sometimes all it takes is the right person sitting across the room. 😏

Love at first sight – should be the greatest feeling, which causes your heart to race, You start to sweat and your mouth goes dry. This initial stage of falling in love activates your stress response increasing blood levels of Adrenaline. When your heart starts racing, that’s because of an adrenaline rush. Your brain sends signals to the adrenal gland which secretes adrenaline. The same response applies to a fast heartbeat while you’re running on a treadmill.

Ever had someone walk into the room and instantly raise your heart rate? ❤️

During Sex Adrenaline makes you feel exhilarated and makes your heart feel like it’s pounding out of your chest. Adrenaline activates the sympathetic nervous system, which increases your heart rate and dilates arteries to increase blood flow to your muscles during sex. It also causes a refractory period in which another orgasm is impossible for up to 20 minutes after sex. During intercourse, increased amounts of adrenaline are released from the adrenal glands. This chemical amplifies the circulatory system with each heart contraction.

No parachute. No roller coaster. Still quite a rush. 😈

Maybe the real question isn’t whether you like adrenaline. It’s how much of it you actually need.

A roller coaster? A mountain? A giant wave? A racetrack? A shark cage? Or perhaps something much simpler… one unforgettable person standing a little too close. 😉
